Referrals

While we don’t require patients to have a referral to book an appointment at Apollo, we always welcome them. If you would like to be referred by your physician, we’ve attached a referral form here that can be printed out and brought to your doctor. We will send your doctor consult notes so they stay in your circle of care.

British Columbia Cannabis Laws

On top of the Canadian Cannabis Laws listed in the Cannabis Act, provinces also have their own laws and regulations to help govern the productions, usage, distribution, packaging, and sales of cannabis and cannabis-related products and services within their province.

In British Columbia, the provincial government created their own Cannabis Control And Licensing Act, which is a legislative framework aimed at protecting the province’s youth and promoting safety while establishing an economically beneficial industry.

Consumption and Possession of Cannabis in British Columbia

In line with the legal drinking and tobacco purchase age in B.C., the minimum age for cannabis purchases and consumption is set at 19 years old. Anyone 19 or older is allowed to possess up to 30 grams of cannabis in public if they do not have a medical cannabis prescription. Cannabis can legally be consumed in private residences, as well as in certain public areas where the consumption of tobacco products is also allowed. This means places such as hospitals, publicly owned spaces, parks, and indoor common areas are banned. Driving under the influence of any type is illegal. If driving under the influence of cannabis, one will be placed on a 90-day Administrative Driving Prohibition (ADP). When driving or transporting cannabis in British Columbia, it must be sealed in its original sealed packaging, within the legal limit amount, and out of reach of the driver and passengers.

Cultivation & Growing Cannabis Plants in British Columbia

Adults over the legal age are allowed to legally grow up to 4 plants per residence and the plants must be completely hidden from the sight of the public. Apollo assists all Canadians in obtaining and registering their ACMPR Personal Production (Grow Your Own) License with Health Canada. In order to legally grow medical cannabis in Canada, you must:

(1) be over the age of 19

(2) have no prior cannabis convictions

(3) be prescribed medical cannabis by a physician

(4) fill out and submit an application to Health Canada

British Columbia Workplaces & Cannabis

B.C. has made consuming recreational cannabis in the workplaces illegal. In the same way one should not be intoxicated from alcohol, being intoxicated by cannabis can lead to both disciplinary action and dismissal by one’s employer. If using medically with a prescription from a physician, patients need to ensure they’re not intoxicated in the workplace and that they’re able to perform their duties appropriately.

Medical Cannabis Laws in British Columbia

Medical cannabis is governed and regulated by the Federal government, and separate from recreational laws in B.C.

Patients authorized by a health care provider are still able to access medical cannabis by:

  • Purchase through a Health Canada Licensed Producer (LP)
  • Applying for a grow your own license (GYO)
  • Designating an individual to grow it for them on their behalf

Public possession limits for patients are the lesser of 150 grams or a 30 day supply of their prescription. This does not include the 30 grams they are allowed to have of recreational cannabis. Patients must be prepared to show they are legally allowed to possess more than 30 grams if requested by law enforcement by showing their registration document from a Licensed Producer or certificate from Health Canada.
Medical cannabis can only be purchased through Licensed Producers, licensed by the Federal Government of Canada via Health Canada. Medical cannabis is often less expensive than recreational cannabis, and as a patient, you will be provided with a personalized treatment plan for strain selection and dosing.  Medical cannabis is tax deductible and may also be covered by insurance.

How do I get CBD oil in British Columbia?

There are two main medical components that make up cannabis, THC and CBD. THC is psychoactive when activated, acting within the endocannabinoid system. This means that THC is responsible for the ‘high’ or euphoric effect that is most commonly associated with consuming cannabis. CBD, on the other hand, is not psychoactive and has therapeutic properties making the compound very medically valuable. CBD oil can be used for conditions such as anxiety, depression or insomnia, without causing the ‘high’.

In British Columbia, CBD is prescribed by a physician or qualified healthcare practitioner and is purchased directly from a Health Canada approved Licensed Producer. The medication is delivered directly to the patient’s home by Canada Post or Purolator.

About British Columbia

British Columbia is the 2nd most populated province in Canada at 4,650,000 residents.

Some call BC the epicenter of Cannabis in Canada because of how it became normalized in the province before other parts of Canada, and it even has some cannabis strains in its namesake (BC Kush, BC Bud, for example).

Its capital city of Victoria has a metropolitan population of 365,000 people. In addition to Victoria, the city of Vancouver has a bustling population of 2,460,000 people. Our reach is Canada-wide and that includes Vancouver! We have helped many patients from BC get their legal Medical Cannabis card since 2014, and with our increasing resources, we look forward to helping thousands more.
