How do I get CBD oil in Nova Scotia?

Although there are thousands of cannabinoids that make up the cannabis plant, there are 2 main compounds that receive the most attention, CBD and THC. THC is the psychoactive component in the cannabis plants, this means that THC is responsible for the ‘high’ that is most commonly associated with using cannabis. CBD, on the other hand, is not psychoactive and may be considered purely therapeutic in nature. CBD is known to treat a variety of conditions and symptoms such as epilepsyarthritis, and anxiety.

Once you are prescribed medical cannabis, you will register with a Health Canada approved Licensed Producer and have the product delivered right to your door! If you are located in Nova Scotia and are interested in CBD oil , a medical cannabis prescription, or more information on if medical cannabis is right for you, schedule an appointment with us today!

Nova Scotia Cannabis Laws

On top of the Canadian Cannabis Laws listed in the Cannabis Act, provinces also have their own laws and regulations to help govern the productions, usage, distribution, packaging, and sales of cannabis and cannabis-related products and services within their province.

In Nova Scotia, lawmakers have set laws to define outlines for both the industry and legal consumers.

Consumption and Possession of Cannabis in Nova Scotia

In Nova Scotia, the minimum age for cannabis purchases and consumption is 19 years old. Anyone 19 or older is allowed to possess up to 30 grams of cannabis if they do not have a medical cannabis prescription. Edibles are currently not available in Nova Scotia to recreational consumers, but available to patients with a medical cannabis prescription.

Cannabis consumption throughout Nova Scotia is currently restricted to private residences and homes. Any public spaces such as parks, streets, restaurants, and more are prohibited. Driving under the influence of cannabis is strictly illegal. When driving or transporting cannabis in Nova Scotia, it must be sealed in a closed package, within the legal limit amount, and out of reach of the driver and passengers. Fines for transporting cannabis improperly or impared driving can result in up to a $2,000 fine.

Cultivation & Growing Cannabis Plants in Nova Scotia

Adults are legally allowed to grow 4 plants per household. Certain areas within Nova Scotia have their own bylaws, so be sure to check your municipality for any bylaws before you begin growing.

Apollo assists all Canadians in obtaining and registering their ACMPR Personal Production (Grow Your Own) License with Health Canada. In order to legally grow medical cannabis in Canada, you must:

(1) be over the age of 19

(2) have no prior cannabis convictions

(3) be prescribed medical cannabis by a physician

(4) fill out and submit an application to Health Canada

Nova Scotia Workplaces & Cannabis

Cannabis is treated the exact same as alcohol in regards to workplace impairment and usage in Nova Scotia.

Medical Cannabis Laws in Nova Scotia

Medical cannabis is governed and regulated by the Federal government, and separate from recreational laws in Nova Scotia.

Patients authorized by a health care provider are still able to access medical cannabis by:

  • Purchase through a Health Canada Licensed Producer (LP)
  • Applying for a grow your own license (GYO)
  • Designating an individual to grow it for them on their behalf

Public possession limits for patients are the lesser of 150 grams or a 30 day supply of their prescription. This does not include the 30 grams they are allowed to have of recreational cannabis. Patients must be prepared to show they are legally allowed to possess more than 30 grams if requested by law enforcement by showing their registration document from a Licensed Producer or certificate from Health Canada.
Medical cannabis can only be purchased through Licensed Producers, licensed by the Federal Government of Canada via Health Canada. Medical cannabis is often less expensive than recreational cannabis, and as a patient, you will be provided with a personalized treatment plan for strain selection and dosing.  Medical cannabis is tax deductible and may also be covered by insurance.
