ACMPR Personal Production License

Interested in growing your own medical marijuana, but not sure where to start? Apollo is here to help.

Are you Interested in Growing Your own Medical Cannabis? Apollo can Help!

Apollo helps patients apply for a personal production license with Health Canada, so you are legally allowed to grow a certain amount of cannabis plants for your own personal medical use. In order to legally grow medical cannabis in Canada, you must:

  1. Be over the age of 18
  2. Have no prior cannabis convictions
  3. Be prescribed medical cannabis by a physician
  4. Fill out and submit an application to Health Canada, along with the original medical document ( prescription )

Apollo helps patients every step of the way to ensure you are successful in your application and ultimately are registered with Health Canada to grow your own medicine.

How do I Apply for a Personal Production License?

In order to apply for a personal production license, you must be prescribed medical cannabis. You are then required to complete a personal production license application.

If an Apollo physician approves that medical cannabis is a suitable treatment option for your condition, you will be prescribed a certain amount of cannabis per day, in grams. You will then work with a patient educator to fill out the appropriate sections of the personal production application to ensure a successful application process.

Apollo will ensure your original medical document and application safely makes it to Health Canada’s office in Ottawa so it can be processed. In the meantime, Apollo will also prescribe you an interim supply, so you can purchase your medical cannabis directly from a licensed producer.

Do I Still Need a Prescription to Grow After Legalization?

Every province in Canada has set out certain rules and restrictions for home-grown cannabis. Some provinces will allow you to grow up to 4 plants, whereas other provinces, such as Quebec and Manitoba have decided against recreational home grows. In order to legally grow in Quebec or Manitoba, or in order to grow more than the allowed 4 plants, you will need a medical cannabis prescription.

How Many Plants Can I Grow?

Your prescription for medical cannabis, coupled with the grow location (indoors vs outdoors vs seasonal) will determine how many plants you are allowed to grow. Health Canada’s personal production calculator will help you estimate the number of plants you will be allowed to grow, based on your prescription.

Can I Grow Medical Cannabis for Someone Else?

Yes, this would require you to become a designated grower. It is a similar application process with Health Canada, however instead of applying to grow your own medicine, you will be applying to become a designated grower for another patient. Apollo will help ensure you complete the application accurately, for a smooth process.
