There is no referral required for patients who are seeking a medical cannabis recommendation in Newfoundland and Labrador. In order to begin the process visit Apollo Cannabis at apollocannabis.ca and fill out the contact form. Once completed an Apollo Cannabis Clinic representative will be in contact to schedule an initial appointment.

The Apollo doctor will make a medical cannabis recommendation which includes daily dosing and specific products that will benefit the user. Once the recommendation has been made individuals will register with one, or several, Licensed Producers (LPs) of their choosing.

All prescription fulfillments for medical cannabis are completed online, through an LP, and will be shipped directly to the individual’s doorstep.

CBD or cannabidiol is one of the main components of the cannabis plant. Unlike, THC, CBD is non- intoxicating, meaning that CBD will not get you “high” or give you the euphoric effect that is often associated with using cannabis. CBD oil can be used to treat symptoms and conditions such as anxiety, chronic pain, and depression. In Newfoundland & Labrador, CBD oil can be prescribed by a physician or qualified Healthcare Practitioner. Patients can then fill their prescription for their CBD oil from a registered Licensed Producer, which will mail your medical cannabis directly to your home.

If you are interested in obtaining a prescription for medical cannabis and CBD oil and live in Newfoundland, Apollo can help.

Why Choose Medical Cannabis?

Medical cannabis users have more leeway when it comes to where cannabis may be consumed, and medical users are allowed to consume cannabis anywhere tobacco is permitted, whereas recreational users may only consume cannabis in a private space. Medical cannabis users may also possess a higher amount of cannabis, based on their medical recommendation, and are allowed to carry tinctures, edibles and CBD products.

Medical cannabis users may register to grow their own medicine or designate someone to grow it on their behalf. The law in Newfoundland and Labrador states that four plants may be produced in each household.

Medical users also have a greater selection of cannabis products to choose from. Licensed Producers offer products that are not available on the recreational market, such as CBD oil, tinctures and decarboxylated flowers. Licensed Producers will also be able to guide patients towards appropriate products for their medical needs.

Finally, all medical cannabis purchases are tax deductible as a medical expense.

Newfoundland & Labrador Cannabis Laws

On top of the Canadian Cannabis Laws listed in the Cannabis Act, provinces also have their own laws and regulations to help govern the productions, usage, distribution, packaging, and sales of cannabis and cannabis-related products and services within their province.

In Newfoundland and Labrador, lawmakers passed The Control and Sale of Cannabis Act to define outlines for both the industry and legal consumers.

Medical Cannabis Laws in Newfoundland & Labrador

Medical cannabis is governed and regulated by the Federal government, and separate from recreational laws in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Public possession limits for patients are the lesser of 150 grams or a 30 day supply of their prescription. This does not include the 30 grams they are allowed to have of recreational cannabis. Patients must be prepared to show they are legally allowed to possess more than 30 grams if requested by law enforcement by showing their registration document from a Licensed Producer or certificate from Health Canada.
Medical cannabis can only be purchased through Licensed Producers, licensed by the Federal Government of Canada via Health Canada. Medical cannabis is often less expensive than recreational cannabis, and as a patient, you will be provided with a personalized treatment plan for strain selection and dosing.  Medical cannabis is tax deductible and may also be covered by insurance.
