How Can Medical Cannabis Help Me?
There are many chemical compounds in the cannabis plant called ‘cannabinoids’. Two of the major cannabinoids are called THC ( Tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD ( Cannabidiol ) . THC is most closely associated with marijuana as it is the psychoactive compound that can cause patients to feel ‘high’. However, THC in the right does and from the right strain of cannabis plant can produce a plethora of medical benefits, including improving the quality and quantity of one’s sleep.
But how can I sleep if I feel ‘high’?
Medical Cannabis can derive from two main types of cannabis plants: The Indica plant and the Sativa plant.
When patients use cannabis products derived from flowers of the indica plant, they report feeling more sedated, and their muscles and bodies relax allowing them to get to sleep. As such, patients who have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep often find benefit from using THC products from the Indica plant.
On the other hand, When patients use cannabis products derived from the flowers of the sativa plant, they report feeling more awake, more energized, focused, creative and imaginative. Variates of cannabis products from the Sativa plant are often great for daytime use, and for people who experience day time fatigue from a poor night’s sleep, chronic fatigue, or general low energy.
Every person has unique sleep and sleep-related issues and as such, what works for one patient, may not work for another. That is why Apollo offers a one-on-one education session tailored to the individual to help you find strains of cannabis that will be best for you and your symptoms.
